Dr. Jinendra Kothari

Biography

A narrative of who Jinendra is, what he has done for others, and how a single inquiry shaped a lifetime of teaching and writing.

Messenger of Sustainable Happiness

Prof. Jinendra Kothari — known as Jinendra Swami — describes himself as a messenger, not a salesman of happiness. For more than 25 years he has been a global wellness educator and happiness activist: founder-director of the Center for Sustainable Happiness with locations in Madison, Mumbai, Toronto, Sydney, and Wellington.

He holds an engineering background — B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering and a Master's in Industrial Design from U.S. universities on merit scholarship — and became the first Indian engineer to receive the Industrial Scholar Award from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, USA. Before the full turn toward teaching, he was a top-level executive who established one of the world's largest ColorMotion LCD animated display manufacturing companies.

Today he is adjunct faculty at Cardinal Stritch University for graduate-level 3S Teacher Training, 3S Outreach Program Director for MMSD, and visiting faculty at Meriter Hospital — walking with one question that never left him: Who Am I?

From engineering to pilgrimage

In 1973, marriage to Shakuntala opened the spiritual side of life — a turning point from executive success toward inner inquiry. What he discovered through pilgrimage inward — recorded in Pilgrimage to Self (1st Ed. 1996, 6th Ed. 2010) — he translated into practices others could hold: Pranic Breathing, Mudra Pranayama, and Jin Yoga Meditation (JYM), including ACE Meditation (AUM Circle of Enlightenment).

Over three decades he has taught across the United States, Egypt, East Africa, India, Nepal, Canada, and Southeast Asia — in university halls, hospitals, school districts, and quiet retreat centers. He chaired the All India Yoga & Meditation Conference (1998) and the All-India Alternate Complementary Therapies Workshops (2002, 2003).

Work that reaches classrooms and communities

His curriculum has been welcomed by institutions that serve the public good: Cardinal Stritch University, Madison and Neenah school districts, Meriter Hospital, the University of Wisconsin–Madison and Wisconsin Association of Mediators, Wholistic Stress Control Institute, and civic partners including Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation School Board.

Teachers, counselors, and community leaders have carried his methods into their own work — a quiet multiplication of care. More than 3,000 Happiness Teachers have been prepared; public accounts speak of 100,000+ students and seekers touched by the practices globally.

A voice carried in public conversation

Media coverage has included American television (NBC, CBS, ABC), radio (WORT-FM), and press ranging from Capital Times and Edge Life Magazine to The Indian Down Under (Sydney), Hindustan Times, and DNA Navi Mumbai. He received the Parkhe Industrial Award from MCCI, India and Rotary's International Excellence Award.

Recognition, for Jinendra, is not the destination. It is a trail of moments where a quieter inquiry entered a louder world — moments that still point back to the same invitation: turn inward, meet yourself, and let sustainable happiness grow from awareness rather than acquisition.

Writings, teachings, and the living archive

His published works — 3S – The New Science of Happiness, 3S Smart Learning System Handbook, Pilgrimage to Self, Maxims of Happiness, Conscious Life Design, Mudras for Health, educational posters, four Meditation Audio CDs, and seven Motivational Pocket Card series — form a library of invitation rather than a shop catalogue.

Jin-Speaks reflections, the Spiritual Glossary (WORDS-VAULT), and the stepped JYM path remain open doors into the same inquiry. This website gathers them as one continuous pilgrimage: the man, the journey, and the work that grew from asking Who Am I?
